From the beginning of the project I really liked the concept of the theme, the interesting tasks that Ms have asked us to do made me very interested. However, this project was meant to be done in the same time as the other one, which made it challenging for me.

The other challenges I have faced were: firstly coming up with initial plot, that was a bit of time consuming problem since the original pieces that I’ve got weren’t making sense at all.

What went well:

I want my future job to be in this kind of field (animation) tis is why I enjoyed throughout the process of making little movie. on the other hand, I enjoyed drawing the background since it was very fun, yet, it took me more time than thinking of a concept and plot of the film.

Even better if:

I would like to change the concept or maybe add some more of a detail.

My stop motion Animation

The task was to make an animation from random lego parts that we got in our letter envelope.

What is ‘stop motion animation?’

Stop motion is an animated filmmaking technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back.

What did I learn from this project?

I learned that time management is very important and the time based tasks are quite effective on making the pressure atmosphere that pushes the project to be done.

The animation that I have made has 71 frames and it has 17 seconds.

SPACESHIP

The different universe where robots have its own intelligence, the creatures can equally do the same and even more of what humans can do.

The plot of the movie is that the spaceship lost its left wing making the side of the ship to burst into fire fabricating its crush. Whilst the side continuously keep on burning, the ship robot tries to pick up its lost compartments and put them in place. Once the job has done and the left wing has restored, the ship makes its way back up to the travelling the space and time.

I liked working on the background since it gave a deeper effect for the video.

My gif

I used photoshop to make this GIF, i really enjoy working with since I’m new to it i find it interesting to work on the photoshop, yet, it didn’t take me that long to understand this process. Gif making process: When I came to the decision making for the time between the frames, I  just ended up on playing around and investigating on how each time pause would look like on my gif. I do like the outcome and how my final gif looks like! However,if to compare my basic looking gif to Uno Morales’s animated gigs that are highly detailed gifs that seen to shimmer with sinister, which gives ’80s video game vibe!  I used different colours so it won’t be boring to watch, yet Morales doesn’t even need the colours to make the GIF interesting and not annoying to rewatch.

Peer Review

What two strength did you see?

The first thing i liked is how you had written about the Willis H. O’Brien, you used to much words to write about this artist, the second thing i liked how you described about the models he did, and how you put the names of the silent animation in your project.

One way to improve?

You have a lot of writing on your blog, but you need to write some more words about the project on 23rd January when we was tried to create something from the lego and then draw the story.

What do you think of the work so far to-date?

On this project you was working just for few weeks so i think so that the work gone really far but you need to put more posts.

artist research – Willis H. O’Brien

He was a stop motion animator from 1915-1962 who used models as his technique.”was responsible for some of the best-known images in cinema history,” and is best remembered for his work The lost world (1925), King Kong (1933) and Mighty Joe Young (1949), for which he won the 1950 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Clay Models: Unlike most clay figures used for animation, clay models have an inner metal skeleton designed to allow them realistic movements and expressions.

Build-Up Models: these type of models are more expensive and detailed than clay models. they are made by building up pieces of foam on a metal skeleton it to create a body, and then either brushing on several layers of liquid latex on top, or casting soft rubbery skins and attaching then to the padded armature.

“Casted” Models: this type of models are the most expensive type used in the industry and are longer-lasting than the other types. these models start as clay sculptures that on top of them a 2 (or more) part mold is made in order to reproduct all the details of it. then the mold parts are assembled with an armature inside of them, and are filled with a liquid material (foam latex, silicone rubber, urethan foam, etc.) that then forms a soft rubbery “flesh” over the skeleton.

Silent shorts:

Edison Studio’s Conquest Pictures (half-reel shorts):

  • Morpheus Mike (1917) (Made in 1915)
  • Prehistoric Poultry, The Dinornis of Great Roaring Whiffenpoof (1916)
  • The Birth of a Flivver (1917) (made in 1916)
  • R.F.D. 10,000 B.C.: A Mannikin Comedy full-reel short (1917)
  • Curious Pets of Our Ancestors (1917)

I really like the way how he does all his shoots very smoothly. it can be seen that the animation was done by professional person.

Artist research – GIF

Uno Morales

Uno Morales has been called a “pixel painter.” He creates highly detailed GIFS that seem to shimmer with a sinister, ’80s video game vibe.”

I really like the anime reference that artist used within his gif, that looks really engaging for the anime watching audience!

On the other hand the artist might had something much serious in his mind as the eye in the triangle might be The Eye of Providence which is a symbol, having its origin in Christian iconography, showing an eye often surrounded by rays of light or a glory and usually enclosed by a triangle. It represents the eye of God watching over humanity.

However, unlike using normal human eye he is using anime eye, which would praise the audience of anime who would really adore his hard detailed work.

About details, he used only 6 frames to make this certain gif, nevertheless it looks detailed and sure it required lots of time of drawing each of the lines to make a pattern for ‘broken line’.

The name of this gif is ‘MEDUSA’

I really like the fact that practically al of the Moralez’s art is in black and white and has quite very deep meaning to each of them.

It is really interesting on investigating on each of them, yet most of them are really easy to repeat, and try yourself onto making a gif since the average of the frames that he usually uses is around 6 to 20 frames.

Artist’s research – GIF

Benjamin Zimmermann of KonkreteGifs uses pencils and Stabilo markers to create hand-drawn geometric animations. Cubes, hexagons, and other angular shapes are presented as three-dimensional explorations on plain white or gridded paper. The objects move, shift, and tumble across the space either in graphite grayscale or technicolor shades.

I like it pretty much because of how easy and uncomplex it looks like.

The concept is easy to understand as well as the meaning of the work of the Artist. perhaps by this gif he tries on making statement that if everything could rewind in time and be reborn then we could avoid on making any mistakes.

I really love GIFs because they have to be short, but at the same time infinite loops,” the German artist explained to Colossal. “… I really like the unsteady character of my hand-drawn GIFs, they have something human that my 3D animations were missing. There are always little errors in my work.

For this one, i just love the fact that he ends the colours at the same exact place ones it ‘full’ rotate it.
